My research focuses on increasing the autonomy of planetary exploration rovers for Moon and Mars missions through experimental work, leveraging artificial intelligence techniques in both photorealistic simulations and analogue facilities such as Lunalab.
I obtained a PhD in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Málaga (Spain) in 2025, with a dissertation on AI-based multimodal perception for planetary exploration robotics, conducted at the Space Robotics Laboratory. I also hold an MSc in Mechatronics Engineering and a BSc in Electronics, Robotics, and Mechatronics Engineering. Additionally, I completed a six-month research stay at the Planetary Robotics Laboratory at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESA–ESTEC).
Raúl Castilla Arquillo is a Research Associate in the Space Robotics (SpaceR) research group at the University of Luxembourg.
